The Hot Tub Wizard came about after years of repairing, treating and servicing chemical automation systems on pools and spas. I have performed over 13,000 service calls.
What is wrong with hot tubs?
First of all, a little more about who I am and how I came to help people get exceptional results.
Back in 1984, I had spent over a year recovering from a near fatal car accident in Southern California and needed a way to support myself. My uncle had a small pool service company for sale so I decided to buy it, thinking it would be a simple business to run. Boy was I in for a rude awakening!
I soon found that taking care of recreational water was much more difficult then I imagined. When I would ask others in the business, I would often get conflicting answers or “I don’t know”. This bothered me because I knew there had to be answers.
After digging around a bit, I started finding answers and began understanding cause and effect in water chemistry. I also found that many of the expensive specialty chemicals were at best band aids for more serious problems and were many times completely unnecessary.
All of the confusion was driving me nuts. I studied hard and learned as much as I could about water chemistry and the various systems and methods used to treat water. I started specializing in hotels and health clubs and got to the point where I could ask a few simple questions and using my senses, identify just about every problem they ever had with their pools, spas and hot tubs.
One of the most important things I learned was that many people don’t know what they are talking about when it comes to water chemistry or they are just plain LYING to you in order to sell chemicals.
Sometimes when I am out shopping, I will go into a hot tub store and pretend I am just some guy off the street that is interested in buying a hot tub for the first time. Most of the time when asking questions, I quickly find that the person I am talking to has no clue what they are talking about. They are just there to sell stuff.
This does nothing to help people that want to buy a hot tub to relax and get away from the stress of the world.
Believe it or not, a lot of the problems associated with hot tubs are actually caused by the chemicals they sell you to put in your hot tub.
How do I know this? I discovered these problems after extensive research and my experience testing, installing and servicing ORP/pH controllers on pools and spas in health clubs, schools and hotels. Having worked with these systems for over 20 years, I have analyzed tons of data and identified patterns of cause and effect of various chemicals and methods used to treat recreational water.
There are quite a few forums out there that can be confusing. I’ve seen the same questions asked over and over.
Forum moderators can make it difficult to help someone and the top ranked contributors are those that sit in front of their computers all day responding to people desperate for solutions to their hot tub problems. I find that forums are good for mechanical issues but in the area of water chemistry, it can get interesting. Recently, I saw someone trying to get a water chemistry problem solved for over a month, asking the same “expert” question after question without a positive outcome. The problem identified, could have been solved in a day – at least in my book.
I’ve seen cloudy water, grey water, green water and brown water, along with itchy water, foamy water and stains all over. All of these problems are easily avoidable with the right information and proper chemical usage.
Most people don’t even realize a lot of the problems that are caused by improper hot tub maintenance!
My real life experience has shown me that most hot tub problems are easy to prevent. Hot tub ownership doesn’t have to be a living nightmare. Did you know that 3 of the most common hot tub chemicals will cause hot tub rash?
Wouldn’t it be nice to learn from my experience so you can avoid the confusion and expense people experience when they try to figure out why they are having problems with their hot tubs?
So what is the easy way to make your hot tub water clean, clear and trouble free?
I will take you by the hand and show you a simple, easy to do methods of hot tub maintenance that will let you spend more time enjoying your hot tub instead of fussing over it.
